A private investor for 20+ years, I manage private portfolios and write about investing. You can read my market musings on three different sites: 1) The Deipnosophist, dedicated to teaching the market's processes and mechanics; 2) Investment Poetry, a subscription site dedicated to real time investment recommendations; and 3) Seeking Alpha, a combination of the other two sites with a mix of reprints from this site and all-original content. See you here, there, or the other site!

Digging out

Have you ever wondered what happens to all those homes damaged by the rising waters of a hurricane? This article answers that question.

Did we expect help from abroad? So far no help is forthcoming. What makes matters worse is the rising tide of anti-Americanism. It ebbs, it flows; now it is at high tide. Consider this fellow, Jürgen Trittin, Germany's minister of the environment, as reported and taken to task by Der Spiegel.

So we are left to the goodwill the commonweal itself inspires. If you ever felt the desire to tithe some of your money to the needy, especially in the wake of a natural disaster such as Katrina, then now is a good moment. The following charities could use your help. They can be found already in the water-logged trenches.
